Day tours are available on all 4 populated Islands, as well as diferent activities. There diferent categories of hotels and resorts on Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela and Floreana Islands.
When choosing a hotel your most important choice is: which Island you want to be based for your day tours or just enjoying the Island life.

Santa Cruz Island

This is the most easiest Island to reach. It is where most travellers visit as it is just next to Baltra Island where the main airport is located.

Puerto Ayora, the main town on Santa Cruz has the best hotel selection from luxury to economy options.

There are many activities and visitor sites just minutes from Puerto Ayora which also houses the Charles Darwin Research Station. From kayaking to snorkelling, trekking, camping and even horseback riding tours are available. It is worth spending a good seven days on Santa Cruz Island.

Facilities include: travel agencies and tour operators (they can organize day tours for you), dive shops, restaurants, shops, discos, bars, internet cafes, banks and other nice places to help make your stay comfortable.

San Cristobal Island

San Cristobal is actually the Island where Puerto Baquerizo Moreno the capital of the Galapagos is located, though few visit it. It has a full commercial airport with flights from mainland Ecuador and an Interpretation center that offers just as good or even better information than the Darwin Station.

Home of the red-footed booby (much rarer than the blue-footed version), San Cristobal is worth a visit and has several good hotel and accomodation options for the visitor. The Hotels here range in price starting with reasonable accomodations for budget travelers working the way up to some pretty elegant hotels.

San Cristobal has a small school, for any of you interested in teaching for a year or two, too. There are also other volunteer opportunities available.

There are some interesting locations just minutes from town. Day tours are available and it is a good base for Island trips.

Facilities Include: Restaurants, travel agencies and day tour operators, dive shos, souvenir shops, banks, internet cafes, bars, discos (not as lively as on Puerto Ayora).

Isabela Island

Isabela Island is not as easy to reach as Santa Cruz or San Cristobal, but it is well worth a visit. To get to Isabela, one must take a Cesna flight or buy a ticket on a 4 hour dinghy ride from Santa Cruz or San Cristobal.

Puerto Villamil is the main town on Isabela, there are very few hotels and limited accommodation options, prices range from tourist superior to economy.

Visitor sites are amazing and day tours can be organized from your hotel. Activities include hiking, trekking, horseback riding, scuba diving and others.

Floreana Island

Floreana is a place of mystery, love triangles, history, and a new-world Adam and Eve story. Pirates, buccaneers, politicians and historians have flocked to Floreana because of its mystique and allure. You can stay with one of the first, and now the only settler in the islands. The Wittmers might have a yarn or two to spin about their early life on the islands.

There is just 1 hotel option on Floreana, there are some visitor sites close by, but it is recommended for those in search of some quiet time and the possibility to relax alone.
